GLEE. – "Thou, thou reign'st in this bosom."

1. Thou, thou reign'st in this bosom;
There, there hast thou thy throne;
Thou, thou know'st that I love thee,
Am I not fondly thine own?
Yes, yes, yes, yes,
Am I not fondly thine own?

2. Then, then, ev'n as I love thee;
Say, say wilt thou love me?
Thoughts, thoughts tender and true love
Say wilt thou cherish for me?

3. Speak, speak, love I implore thee,
Say, say‚ 'hope may be thine;'
Thou, thou know'st that I love thee,
Tell me that thou wilt be mine.

Dort folgende Angabe: "This Glee has been often sung as here arranged. It is much altered, as will be seen by comparing it with the next page, where it has been restored to its original form, with the exception of transposing from the key of C to F, for accommodation of Soprano voices."

Editorische Anmerkung:
Auf Seite 167 des "Boston Glee Book" folgt die erwähnte "original form" des Liedes mit zwei kleineren Textabweichungen:
– Strophe 1, Zeile 5: "Yes! oh! yes!" (statt: Yes, yes, yes, yes)
– Strophe 2, Zeile 3: "tender and faithful" (statt: tender and true love)
sowie der Herkunftsangabe: "C. E. PAX", die sich auf den musikalischen Satz bezieht:
